I started learning photography about 10 years ago, and I remember the first ever camera I owned was an Olympus C700UZ. After a couple of years, I moved on to being a Canon user, and uses Canon through and through for all my work and personal imaging needs since.
While I can’t quite foresee me moving away from Canon for my professional work, the Oly brand has always had a soft spot in my heart. Fast forward 10 years (approximately) after the C700UZ.
An interesting lil camera from Olympus, the OM-D E-M5 (yes.. an oddly long name), came along, this one small enough to fit into a lady’s bag (for my wife of course) as compared to all my work rigs, but with very decent quality and expandability, so much so that it persuaded me to part with a cool $1799.00 for it.
Now we have a fantastic casual family camera we can lug around for holidays without the added heft/weight, and something for my wife to grab those cute lil candid images of our almost 2 year old Cutie Pie around the house.
I must say, after so many years, I’m glad to own an Oly again, a very beautiful retro looking one at that.
I’d just got it last night, so I ain’t gonna go into detailed analysis of strengths and weaknesses. Initial impressions though, is very good. Built quality is awesome (it apparently is weather proof), high ISO capababilty is pretty fantastic considering how small the camera (and it’s sensor) is. And one of the main reasons why i picked it up was that it has probably one of the fastest auto-focus lock on time ever! It probably trumps some DSLRs even (haha I know that’s a lil reaching, but it’s really very snappy)! And that can only be good for catching my lil one running around and those fleeting moments.
Maybe I will do up a longer writeup on the camera, when I have more fun with it. Provided I have some time in between work 🙂
Meantime, I will leave you guys with this lil image of my new retrolicious camera.
P.S – Happy 13.9 Anniversary Dearie!!! The Oly plus the new Oven can be considered an Annie gift right? hehehehe
